Where Splitwise is the better pick

More of your friends already have it. Splitwise has been around since 2011, and the person you split with may already be on it. Antemate lets you add people by name so nobody is blocked, but that is not the same as everyone already being there.
A web app. Antemate is a phone app; this site has no ledger in it. If you settle up from a laptop, Splitwise does that and we do not.
In-app payment in some countries. At the time of writing Splitwise can hand off to payment services in the US. Antemate never moves money anywhere, by design, and points you at the app you already use.
Charts and years of polish — charts are on their paid plan. Antemate is new, and what it does not have yet it does not advertise.

Moving over takes one file

In Splitwise, open the group, tap the settings icon, then Export as spreadsheet. In Antemate, open the group you want it in and choose Import from Splitwise. Every expense, who paid and how it was split comes across; you check the preview before anything is written.

Nobody has to move with you

Add the same people by name and their shares count from the first expense. If they install Antemate later they take over that seat; if they never do, you can still settle with them.

Nothing is sold

No ads means no ad network, and no ad network means your ledger is a record of who owes whom between friends and not a data product. Deleting your account erases your details; your friends' balances stay correct.

Is Antemate really free with no daily limit?

Yes. Unlimited groups, friends and expenses, every way to split, every currency, settling up, comments, full history, search and totals are free for everyone, with no ads. Pro exists only for the four features that cost us money each time they are used — receipt scanning, menu translation, ledger questions and plan-against-actual — and only the person who wants them pays.

Can I import my Splitwise groups?

Yes. Export a group from Splitwise as a spreadsheet (CSV), then in Antemate open the group you want it in and choose Import from Splitwise. You see a preview of every row before anything is written.

Do my friends need to leave Splitwise?

No. Add them by name and their balances are real from the first expense. They can install Antemate whenever they like, or never, and you can still settle with them.

Does Antemate pay people for me?

No, on purpose. It records that you paid and points you at the payment app you already use. We never hold or move money and never see a card number.
