Antemate vs Splid

Two apps with no ads. One asks for no account at all.

Splid is small, quick and well loved, and for a lot of groups it is all they need. This page says when, and says what Antemate does differently — without pretending the other app is worse than it is.

A photographed bill from a Fado night, read into five lines to check before the split is saved.

Where Antemate is the better pick

  • Every currency at the rate from the day it happened, so a debt agreed on Tuesday is the same number on Friday, and each person reads it in their own currency.
  • A photographed bill becomes a split, line by line, for you to check before it is saved — and a menu in a language you do not read comes back in yours. (Pro; 3 scans free to try.)
  • A conversation under every expense: comments, and an edit history that cannot be deleted, so "who changed the hotel?" has an answer.
  • Planned against actual on a trip: a budget, or a trip planned in Yanvara, measured against real spending day by day while you are still away. (Pro.)
  • Search across every group, a Splitwise group brought across from its spreadsheet export, and any group taken away again as a PDF statement or a CSV — free.
Settle up: the fewest payments that clear the group, each with a Mark as paid button.

Where Splid is the better pick

  • Nobody needs an account — not even you. Splid says "there's no sign-up required": make a group offline in seconds, or switch on sync to share it. Antemate lets friends join by name without one, but the person who starts the group signs in with an email or a phone number.
  • A long record. At the time of writing Google Play shows Splid with more than a million downloads and a 4.9 rating from over 86,000 reviews. Antemate is new.
  • Less to learn. Splid does one thing — who owes whom — and keeps its screens to that. If you will never scan a receipt or plan a trip budget, there is nothing extra to find your way around.

Switching

What people ask when they compare the two.

Is Antemate a good Splid alternative?

If you want the same ad-free, offline ledger plus exchange rates held from the day each expense happened, comments and history on every expense, and on Pro, receipt scanning, menu translation and a trip budget measured against real spending — yes. If you want nobody in the group to sign up at all, Splid is the better pick.

Is Splid free?

Splid's own site says "Splid is free!" at the time of writing, and its store listings offer optional in-app purchases, including Excel export. Antemate's ledger is also free with no daily limit, exporting a group as a PDF or CSV included; Pro is optional.

Do I need an account for Antemate?

The person who starts a group signs in with an email or a phone number, so the group can sync and be recovered on a new phone. Everyone else can be added by name and never needs an account; if they install Antemate later they take over their seat.

Do my friends need to move from Splid?

No. Add them in Antemate by name and their shares count from the first expense. They can install it whenever they like, or never.
